My Bucket List

I've never seen the movie "The Bucket List".  Mostly because I think it will make me cry, and I generally don't like to do that.

In 2009, my life got flipped inside-out, upside down, spun around in a circle, stuffed in a bag and got thrown from the top of Mount Everest, tied to train tracks with certain doom impending...
Okay. I'm pretty sure you get the idea.  Anyway, while my life was going on without me, I wrote a bucket list.  I've accomplished some of the things (hooray for me)- but other things on my list are going to take some time to accomplish.  The following are in no specific order, with the exception of the first two, as there was a brief time in my life when I wasn't sure if they were even going to be possible.  Some have explanations, others don't.

My Bucket List

1. Make it to 21 years old.
Accomplished.  21 was the best birthday I've ever had, thanks to one person, and I mean that in all seriousness... I didn't realize how loved I was until that moment in time.
2. Graduate from college summa cum laude.
Accomplished, and in time.  I only managed to get two B+s (Thanks BB and your Buddha), and I walked across the stage at Madison Square Garden decorated like a war hero.  I even was honored with the medal for having the highest gpa of the education majors.  I'm also a member of Delta Epsilon Sigma, Sigma Tau Delta, Pi Lambda Theta and Golden Key.
3. Learn how to play the piano.
This may or may not include learning to read music.  But I do want to play an instrument, and I've always liked the piano.
4. Visit Italy! (Ride in a gondola, eat a piece of Parmesan cheese right off the wheel)
In approximately 4 weeks I will have completely accomplished this goal!!!!
5. Learn to speak a 2nd language fluently
I can speak some French, I know a few phrases in Spanish, a touch of Latin here and there.  I've studied Italian, but can't speak, read, or write in any of them.  I want to formally study Spanish. I want to be fluent in either French, Spanish, Italian or all three!
6. Learn how to drive.
This is becoming more and more of a necessity.  Soon.  I promise.
7. Write a book and have it published.
I don't care if it is a memoir, a cookbook,  a textbook, a novel... I just want to see my name on a book in Barnes and Noble.
8. Get my phD
I really do like being a student, and this will give me something to work towards after I finish my degrees needed to be a teacher.  I want to go to Columbia, partially because they have pretty colored robes, and partially because it is a great school.
9. Have my own classroom.
This may happen next year, it may happen in five years.  It all depends on when King Bloombag decides to get his act together and get rid of the hiring freeze for the NYC Public Schools... 1st grade would be ideal.  That has been my favorite grade so far.
10. Open and own a restaurant
I love the way home cooking makes me feel.  I love cooking for people and seeing them enjoy what I've made... so why not open a restaurant?
11. Have a big church wedding.
It is weird that I want a church wedding, seeing as most of the time, I don't believe in any kind of god.  But everytime I picture myself getting married, it is in a huge church with beautiful stained glass windows and flowers everywhere.
12. Have babies- lots of them.
I want to be a real mommy, and not just the fake mommy to my friends.  I want to be able to carry my own child and give birth and enjoy everything that comes with motherhood, even the sleepless nights and the dirty diapers and the screams and tears, because with that also comes the greatest feeling in the world- unconditional love.
13. Change someone's life
I haven't quite figured out how to do this just yet.  Most of the plans surrounding this one are conditional on the preceding item.
14. Run a 5k in 30 minutes or less.
I walked a 5k in 45 minutes in 90 degree blistering heat.  I want to be able to run the entire 5k in 30 minutes or less before I die.  I don't care if I'm 25 or 95, I will do this.
15. Swim a 500 free in 7 minutes or less.
The fastest I ever swam the 500 was in 8 minutes, which was slow when I was in high school.  I want to be in good enough shape that I can easily swim 500 yards of freestyle in 7 minutes or less, with flip turns at every lap.
16. Raise $25,000 for Wegener's research.
$3,000 down, $22,000 more to go.  Thanks to the 1st Annual Sticking Together for a Cure Walk at Iona College, everyone helped me to raise an incredible amount of money.  This is something that my life may literally depend upon some day, so it is up to me to be proactive about it!
17. Own my own house on the beach.
I'm talking huge house, with the perfect view, with a balcony that looks right into the ocean.
18. Take my children to Disney World for a week and stay in a resort.
Even at 22 I enjoy Disney tremendously... I want my children to be able to do the same.  And staying in the OKW resort was beyond fun, so that vacation will be for me too :)
19. Take each of my children on their dream vacation when they graduate from college.
My Grandma is taking me to Italy.  I want to take my kids where they want to go too.
20. Cruise Alaska and see the Aurora Borealis.  (Perhaps I'll see Lyra... NOT.) (Bonus points for anyone who recognizes that literary allusion)
I never want to have to analyze that novel again, but I do want to go on a cruise and see the Aurora, seeing as it is beyond amazing.
21. Learn how to ride a bike.
No comments please! I never learned how.  End of story.
22. Learn how to ice skate.
I want to be able to do lutzs and salchows and all the gorgeous moves that the olympic figure skaters do... I'm not expecting to be an olympic level skater, but I want to try to move on the ice without clinging to the wall for fear of falling and getting my hand chopped off by an approaching speed demon.
23. See the Titanic before it disintegrates.
That magnificent ship has fascinated me since I first learned about it.... I went to the Titanic Museum this past year and it was AMAZING... the staterooms and dining rooms and grand stair case re-creations were just mind blowing.  I want to go on a submarine and see the ship before it is gone forever. (And no, I won't be looking for the heart of the ocean.)

What about you? Anything interesting on your bucket list?

My First Blog

I've never written a blog before.  Do I like to write? Yes. Do I have a lot to say? You betcha.

But mostly I'm unemployed, I don't start school again for a few months, and I really need to stop watching marathons of shows like "Say Yes to the Dress" on Netflix.

I have a lot to say about certain things- education, teaching, living in Brooklyn, playing farmville (haha), graduating from college, and the list goes on and on.

I like feedback.
I also like lists.
